This is the first blog post for 'GreenAuthenticate'. First of all we would like to thank our friend's at Shroggle for their enthusiasm and support as we build out the technical infrastructure for our site and service. With that as an appropriate seg way, we would like to share with you our thoughts on the role of 'digitization' in corporate greening. Imagine if every office were paperless. Not just the calming absense of note pads, loose paper and sticky notes, but a complete omission of print sales and product literature, a sessation of those heavy wasteful polluting catalogs, no paper bills, no paper instructions... Imagine what your desk could look like; imagine being able to see your desk ;) Paperless also means potentially the digitization of media: CDs, photos, video. Replacing your corporate library with a couple of terrabites of external hard drive. (6 square inches of hardware with a usb cord to your network computer). If web based digital catalogs and documents could replace all print catalogs, all price and spec sheets, all instructions manuals and all sales materials. Think how many trees could be saved how much ink could be avoided and how much lighter and cleaner would be our environment in all senses of the word. We have already come a long way. When was the last time you saw an inter office memo on paper... ? Email is faster, cleaner and infinitely more efficient. When was the last time you saw a physical accounting ledger? Yes they used to do that on paper. How many faxes did your company receive per day in say 1990, how many faxes come in per day now? Of course monologues like this are inevitably preaching to the converted, but if we could each reach out and help another company to go paperless in some small way, we could truly make a tremendous difference. |
